Today marks the beginning of the 22nd Annual National Workers’ Compensation and Disability Conference in Las Vegas. MEDVAL is excited to once again be a part of this annual gathering tailored exclusively to work comp professionals. The event is being held at Mandalay Bay for the first time in five years, an indescribable improvement over the LVH. This year’s event will kick off with a keynote address delivered by Bill Zachry, risk manager of one of our oldest and dearest clients, Safeway. Bill intends to talk about fighting myths to achieve excellence in comp. After that, the conference runs five concurrent general sessions for two and a half days so there is something for everyone at this event.

Jen Jordan will present on Thursday from 1:30 to 2:45 in Islander D-E with a Medicare Secondary Payer case law update. With the Supreme Court denying cert in the Caldera case, workers’ compensation law gained an important advantage over CMS policy that every workers’ compensation professional should be aware of. In addition to the questionable interpretation of Medicare Advantage Plan right to bring recovery suits, this year’s case law has proven to turn slightly in the favor of primary payers and should make for an interesting discussion.

If you are actually in attendance, please come visit us in Booth 1417! We are located in the center isle right behind Exam Works and ACE. You can’t miss us. This year we are hosting the WorkCompAnalysis Group from LinkedIn. Moderator Mark Walls will be present during the breaks to greet his members and take some photos for their website. We have provided an extensive assortment of snacks so please come by and visit for a while.

To those in attendance, we hope you enjoy your stay in Las Vegas and that we get an opportunity to see you during the next few days. For those not able to attend, we hope to see you next year because you are missing a great event.
