Ryan founded MEDVAL in 2003 following nearly two decades experience negotiating and settling high-exposure workers’ compensation and liability claims, many requiring the protection of Medicare’s interests pursuant to the Medicare Secondary Payer Act.
He entered the claims business in 1992 as a structured settlement specialist for one of the nation’s largest structured settlement brokerage where he quickly earned a reputation for quality work, specialized knowledge and a commitment to personal service that earned him assignments with prominent national accounts including AIG, Travelers, Fireman’s Fund, The Harford and Liberty Mutual.
In 1999, Ryan was recruited by Settlement Planning Associates to establish the nation’s first dedicated worker’s compensation structured settlement practice. Within two years, he was routinely handling Medicare Set-Aside issues for clients.
Since then, Ryan has personally handled or supervised thousands of workers’ compensation and third-party liability settlements. He is qualified to give expert testimony and provide CEU credits in a variety of jurisdictions and routinely speaks on MSP and settlement-related issues. Ryan is also a member of the National Structured Settlements Trade Association (NSSTA) and the National Association of Medicare Set-Aside Professionals (NAMSAP).
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Towson University and a Masters of Business Administration with a specialization in Finance from the University of Baltimore.
