A light at the end of a long, dark tunnel?

The new WCRC contractor, Provider Resources, has been doing a nice job turning around cases since they took over the contract from Lifecare Management Partners on 07/02/2012.

Turnaround times for submitted cases have been averaging 32 days so far in 2012. In 2011, the former contractor averaged 141 days, and just when you think it couldn’t get any worse, 203 days so far in 2012.

More importantly, they seem to have a greater willingness to take another look at cases were there is obvious room for reconsideration. This is a welcome change from the “talk to the hand” approach favored by their predecessors.

In fairness to both parties, they can only do as much as they can do based on CMS funding. The WCRC contract has onerous service requirements and, without the money to staff the contract, 203 day backlogs are what you get. This may be jumping the gun a bit and I very well may be forced to eat my words in another year (or less), but it seems as if Provider Resources seems to actually care about doing a decent job based on our interactions with them to date.
