On February 11, 2016, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released an Alert regarding the status of the transition of Non-Group Health Plan (NGHP) recovery activity from the Benefits Coordination & Recovery Center (BCRC) to the Commercial Repayment Center (CRC), which began on October 1, 2015.

CMS identified that they are aware of a current back log, admitting that many workers’ compensation entities and insurers are waiting for Conditional Payment Letters (CPLs), Conditional Payment Notices (CPNs) and final demand letters. Since October 1st, over 33,000 CPLs and CPNs have been issued. CMS indicated they are actively engaged with the CRC to try to rectify the current situation by improving the CRC’s responsiveness to requests for conditional payment information and handling of correspondence.
